Visit to Government House

Hello garden club members,

The last trip before our summer break will be to Government House in Victoria on Sat. June 23. The Friends of Government House Gardens Society (a volunteer gardening group) have organized “BC Blooms”,  an event to celebrate their 20th anniversary and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Admission is free. It will include:

– a juried flower arrangement competition
– floral displays both indoors and outside
– horticultural exhibits
– displays by garden clubs
– land art
– tours of the gardens (they are extensive and magnificent) – cost $2
– there will probably be food booths and afternoon tea too, but I would suggest bringing a lunch just in case.

Check out their web-site at  http://www.fghgs.ca/bc-blooms   Lots of gorgeous pictures of the gardens.

Smith Transportation has a deal for us where they will rent us a full coach for a mini-bus price, as they don’t have mini-buses. The coach we are planning to hire has upholstered, reclining seats and a bathroom. We should have a double seat each…sounds pretty comfy! We can take up to 24 people at the reduced mini-bus rate.

The cost will be $30 each.

Departure from Coronation Mall – 9:30 AM Sat. June 23, arrive Government House about 11AM
Leave Government House – 3 PM,  arrive back at Coronation Mall about 4:30PM

I hope to sell all 24 seats so we will break even with no cost to our club. To that end the seats will be open to Club members only until Sat. May 26.
After that I will open up the seats to groups like the Newcomers Club and all your friends until (hopefully) all 24 seats are paid for.

Looking forward to a great outing – Pam Fraser
